Spunk the sick little Dove

We had a new patient in the Intensive Care Unit at the Wildlife Centre recently: Spunk, a little Dove.

Spunk most likely had somehow fallen out of its nest and was seriously undercooled.

After going through the admission process, Spunk went into a hot-box, to get back up to a normal temperature and so it would feel nice comfortable.

Feeding

However, how do you feed such a small bird without its parents being around? In the video below you can see how our volunteer uses a syringe and a part from a surgical glove, to give Spunk the idea he is getting food from a crop. Being able to help such a tiny bird to feed normally and grow into an adult bird that can be released back into the wild to have a normal life, is one of the big pleasures for our hardworking volunteers at the Centre.
