Possum Rescue: after getting caught in fishing lines
A heartwarming rescue story to brighten your day!
This little possum found itself in a tricky situation when it got tangled in fishing
gear in Alison’s shed, resulting in a fishing hook stuck in its skin. Thankfully, Alison called the Mandurah Wildlife Centre, and one of our dedicated volunteers quickly took the possum to the vet.
With the amazing care of the vet, the hooks were removed, and the possum was given pain relief and antibiotics. It then came to our wildlife centre for some much-needed rest and recovery.
We’re happy to report that it settled in perfectly!
Check out the video of the possum enjoying a snack in its cozy recovery pouch!
Today, we were thrilled to release it back home. We set up a new possum box in the tree, and it immediately headed up to join its mate inside. Watch the heartwarming release video to see it all unfold!
A huge thank you to Alison and her husband for their proactive efforts to prevent future incidents. Feeling remorseful, her husband spent time and resources building a new storage cabinet to keep the fishing gear safely stored away.
