A Season for Giving

How You Can Support Mandurah Wildlife This Christmas

This time of year brings unique challenges to wildlife and for us at the Centre. While many of us are enjoying the holiday cheer, it can be a difficult time for local wildlife. The summer heat, increased human activity, and festive fireworks often lead to more animals needing care. Injured birds, orphaned joeys, and displaced reptiles are just some of the cases we see more frequently during this period.

This Christmas, we invite you to join us in giving these animals the gift of a second chance. Whether it’s through volunteering, donating, or simply spreading awareness, there are many ways to help.

Ways to make a difference:

Volunteer and Make a Difference

Volunteering at the Mandurah Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre is a rewarding way to give back to the community and connect with nature. Our volunteers assist with a range of activities, from feeding and caring for animals to helping with administration and maintenance tasks. This December, consider signing up as a volunteer to help us manage the increased demand for care over the holiday period.

Donations: Every Little Bit Helps

If volunteering isn’t an option, financial contributions or supplies can go a long way. Donations help us provide medical treatment, food, and safe habitats for the wildlife in our care. You can also sponsor specific projects, like building new enclosures or funding research into local wildlife conservation.

Stakeholders for a Better Future

For businesses and local government stakeholders, partnering with the Mandurah Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre is a meaningful way to show your commitment to sustainability and community engagement. Whether it’s through corporate volunteering days, sponsorships, or collaborative initiatives, we’d love to explore how we can work together to protect Mandurah’s unique wildlife.

A Wildlife-Friendly Christmas

You can also help wildlife from the comfort of your own home by making eco-conscious choices this holiday season.

Consider:

  • Reducing plastic waste: Choose reusable or biodegradable decorations and packaging.

  • Wildlife-safe lighting: Avoid bright outdoor lights near bushland or waterways.

  • Mindful celebrations: Keep fireworks and loud noises away from wildlife habitats.

  • Responsible: Keep open flames, cigarettes and anything flammable in their designated areas, away from bushlands.

  • Drive Responsibly: for your safety, and the safety of wildlife who may be crossing the road or seeking shelter nearby.

Share the Spirit of Conservation

This December, let’s come together as a community to celebrate not just the festive season but also the incredible wildlife that makes Mandurah so special. Share your experiences on social media, tag the Mandurah Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre, and encourage others to join the cause. Together, we can ensure a brighter future
