A Battle Against Habitat Loss

The Wildlife Centre operates solely on donations and faces an uphill battle against the relentless spread of urban development. The Peel region, known for its stunning natural beauty, is one of the fastest growing areas in Australia. Its population is expected to surge from 166,000 to 444,000 by 2050.
As new suburbs replace native bushland, trees are often cleared to maximize profits in high-density developments. This rapid loss of habitat threatens biodiversity, making the work of the Centre more critical than ever.

The Role of Conservation and Education
Heather Hamilton, a nonprofit consultant originally from Edmonton, Canada, has made the Peel region her home. She loves the areas unspoiled coastline and dark night skies, free from excessive artificial light. Like many modern professionals, her office is wherever her laptop is, allowing her to serve clients across the Middle East, Asia, and Australia.
Now, Heather is volunteering her expertise to help Mandurah Wildlife refine its mission, expanding its focus to add Conservation and Education to its Rehabilitation focus. The idea is simple but powerful: without protecting native habitats, we all stand to lose.
This vision is resonating with forward-thinking businesses that take their community responsibilities seriously. As the region continues to grow, setting aside protected areas for conservation and educating on the need must be a priority.
How You Can Help
